A new paper "Ecology and Evolution" is introduced in GATE 2014

Dear Prospective Student,

From 2014 onwards, IISc will be discontinuing all of its PhD entrance exams including the Ecology (ES) exam that was one of the qualifying exams to appear for an interview at CES for our PhD program.

For the year 2014, we encourage you to take a new GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam paper titled "Ecology and Evolution" (paper code EY) introduced from 2014 onwards. Apart from CES, many other institutions such as all five IISERs and JNCASR (Bangalore) will accept GATE scores in the EY exam to short-list their candidates for their interviews. In addition to these, an attractive feature of the GATE exam is that all GATE -qualified students are eligible for an MHRD scholarship.

In addition to the above GATE paper, CES will also short-list students (for interviews) from other GATE streams and other national qualifying exams including UGC-NET, CSIR, INSPIRE Fellows, etc. As before, we will announce cut-offs for different exams during the IISc admission process through the IISc website (http://admissions.iisc.ernet.in/).

Please note the following important dates for the GATE-EY exam 2014:

  • Online applications are accepted from September 2nd 2013.
  • Last date for online applications: October 1st 2013.
  • Last date for receipt of hard copy of application with supporting documents at respective gate offices: 10th October 2013.
  • GATE exam date: A weekend in the month of February or March 2014 (exact date will be
    announced on the GATE website).
  • Results will be announced by the end of March 2014.

Note that you are responsible for finding accurate information about all exams yourself. For GATE 2014, please follow instructions on the GATE website: http://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/gate2014/

A sample set of exam questions for GATE-EY is available here.

The poster for GATE-Ecology Evolution (EY) is available here.

The syllabus for the exam is available here.

Please distribute this information widely. Any questions may be sent to cesoffice@ces.iisc.ernet.in

Best wishes,
