Darwinism – A Sesqui-Centennial Celebration
14 – 17 September 2009
Karnatak University, Dharwad
The year 2009 marks the 200th year of the birth of Charles Darwin (born 12th February, 1809), and the 150th year of the publication of his landmark book, "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection" (1859). This year, the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) also celebrates its platinum jubilee, and Karnatak University its Diamond Jubilee. As so aptly said by the noted evolutionary biologist and geneticist, Theodore Dobzhansky, "nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution". We pay homage to the father of evolutionary biology by hosting a conference to commemorate the sesqui-centennial year of Darwinism.
