Oxfam America, a Boston-based international development
organization, is looking for a community based resource management
specialist to assist Oxfam in building its technical expertise in the area
of CBRM. The specialist with be Oxfam's point person on a collaborative
research project on CBRM initiatives in indigenous communities in the
Amazon, and will also work with other regional programs as the improve and
consolidate their CBRM strategies.=A0 The position is based in Boston, but

RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP -- forest log decay study

    to start Spring Semester 1999 or Summer 1999

Description:  The study involves field work and some
lab work to determine typical rates of log decay and
residence times of logs within decay classes for a
chronosequence of common Oak-hardwood forest tree
species.  Preliminary field work will involve contacting
landowners and subsequently driving to field sites.  A
valid driver's license and willingness to work alone
in the field are required.

Assistantship includes an annual stipend, tuition waiver,
and health insurance.  The work will lead to a Master's
Degree in Natural Resources at the University of Connecticut.
The University of Connecticut is located in rural northeastern
Connecticut.

Starting Date:  Spring Semester 1999 or Summer 1999
