LBA is designed to create the new knowledge needed to understand the climatological, ecological, biogeochemical and hydrological functioning of Amazonia, the impact of land use change on these functions and the interactions between Amazonia and the Earth system. The individual will have responsibility for operating two extant models (one of vegetation-atmosphere interactions on hourly to annual time-scales, the other of ecosystem biogeochemistry, on annual to decadal time scales) to generate regional extrapolations of the dynamics of C and nutrient storage and exchange. This will involve interaction with LBA teams involved with data collection at both intensive study sites and from remote sensing and with LBA teams modeling other components of the Amazon basin system. It will also involved collaboration with our Brazilian colleagues who have expertise in remote sensing and GIS.
