MISSION: The mission of the HCENR is: a) to take inventories of natural resources and specify areas subjected to depletion, desertification and pollution, in order to ensure their appropriate management and to decide on priorities for further studies; b) to draft environmental conservation policies in coordination with the appropriate state authorities; c) to establish Branches and Technical Committees to support the Council, and to coordinate the work of these Branches in their efforts towards sustainable development; d) to make long-term plans for environmental conservation and rational use of natural resources and follow up on the execution of these plans with appropriate authorities; e) to review periodically environmental and natural resource legislation in order to ensure that laws are effective, and to introduce any necessary amendments, f) to work towards securing popular, governmental and international funding for conservation and sustainable development, g) to encourage support and coordinate scientific research in environmental and natural resources areas; h) to create a federal plan for environmental awareness and to incorporate environmental education in school curricula, i) to establish by-laws to coordinate the Council meetings.
