CONSEJO COSTARRICENSE DE DESARROLLO SOSTENIBLE (COSTA RICAN COUNCIL ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT)

MISSION: The Costa Rican Council on Sustainable Development is the highest entity in the national dialogue on sustainable development policies, and works in cooperation with the public and private sectors. Among other functions, the Council considers policies for the implementation of the Rio Agreements, adapts Agenda 21 to the Costa Rican situation, follows up on the Costa Rican model for sustainable development, and prepares reports for the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A National System for Sustainable Development (SINADES) has also been proposed, which would coordinate and execute all actions and programs for promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life in Costa Rica. SINADES would integrate four bodies: the National Council on Sustainable Development, the Regional Council on Sustainable Development, the Consultative Technical Commissions and the Executive Secretariat.
