1. NATIONAL ENVIRONMENT COMMISSION (NEC)

ESTABLISHED: 1989

MISSION: The long-term objective of the NEC is to define and to establish policies, plans, organizations, and actions whereby the sustainability of resources will be fully integrated into every aspect of the country's social and economic development. The short-term objectives are: 1) to formulate a National Environmental Strategy which will serve as a planning guide for the country; 2) to institutionalise Environmental Impact Assessments, 3) to establish environmental quality standards; and 4) to enhance the knowledge and understanding of environmental matters and sustainability throughout the Bhutanese community.
