This second edition of the Directory of National Councils for Sustainable Development or Similar Initiatives would not have been possible had it not been for the work done last year with the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). To these two institutions, and in particular to Donna Wise and Jacob Scherr, we owe a special thanks for having believed in the project and for having shared the resources of their respective organizations. They provided us with invaluable information from the National Reports being compiled for the April 1995 meeting of the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.
