An international meeting on environmental problems in the Middle East ended on 5 May 1993 in Tokyo, Japan after reaching an agreement to consider adopting a uniform code of conduct for protecting the region's environment.

El Taller Movement's General Assembly met in Tunis on 21-25 October 1993, to discuss three key issues of the decade: Progress or stagnation after Rio?; Innovations in development education; and Access of Arab NGOs to international cooperation. Three working groups of experts prepared for the specific themes of the conference. Over 250 leaders of NGOs from around the world participated.
