The Pacto Acción Ecológica de America Latina organized an open
consultation in Santiago de Chile from 4 to 5 June 1993, the
Regional Consultation of NGOs and Social Movements on the
Conference on Environment and Development. The principal objective
of the consultation was the analysis of the results of UNCED and
the Global Forum, and to discuss modalities of implementation of
the alternative treaties.
With the aid of Japan, the establishment of a national center
for the environment is planned at the University of Chile. The
center will concentrate on pollution problems in Latin America.
