Amphibians in Western Ghats

121 species are reported from the Western Ghats, fall under 23 genera, 6 families and 2 orders. Of these, 93 species are endemic to Western Ghats (Molur and Walker, 1998).

Salientians found in Western Ghats belong to, 4 families and 19 genera with 107 species. Seventy eight of them are endemic to this region. Among the Apodan, 14 species are recorded and all are endemic to Western Ghats (Table).  There are new discoveries from the Western Ghats (Krishnamurthy et al., 2001).
